シルク (Silk)

Silk
Silk is an Urban, R&B and Pop group formed in 1991.

Silk are perhaps best known for their 1993 #1 single Freak Me from their debut album Lose Control. Another hit single from the Lose Control album, "Girl U For Me", helped the album reach double platinum status. They later had success with singles such as "I Can Go Deep", "Hooked On You", "Don't Rush", "If You", "Meeting In My Bedroom", "Let's Make Love", "Tonight", "We're Calling You, "Ebony Eyes", "Love Session", "Nursery Rhymes, "I Didn't Mean To", "Don't Go featuring Tamar Braxton", "I'm Sorry", "Silktime", Side Show" "You [The Baby Song], "Secret Garden (Seduction Suite), "Adore", "There'll Never Be", "Nite And Day", "Don't Disturb This Groove" "Two Occasions" and "Always & Forever.

The group was originally a quintet made up of Tim Cameron, Jimmy Gates, Gary "Big G" Glenn, Gary "Lil G" Jenkins and Jonathen "John-John" Rasboro. In 2002 main lead singer Gary "Lil G" Jenkins left the group to pursue other interests as a solo artist leaving the group as a quartet. They were discovered by artist Keith Sweat.

They continued the popularity of the various New Jack Swing groups that emerged in the late 80's and 90's. Jenkins made his stage debut in 2002 as AJ in the Tyler Perry play "Madea's Family Reunion".

In 2002, Elektra Records dropped Silk and Sweat from the label. That same year, Jenkins left the group to pursue other interests. He resurfaced in 2005 with his solo debut "The Other Side". Jenkins is currently a member of the R&B supergroup Blayse with Marc Nelson and Tony Grant both formerly of Az Yet and Terrell Phillips formerly of Blackstreet.

In 2003, down to a quartet, Silk released their fifth album "Silktime" independently on their own label Silk Music Group distributed through Liquid 8 Entertainment. The album featured the songs "Silktime", "My Girl", "Alibi", "More", "You (The Baby Song)", "Check My Story" and a remake of Blue Magic's classic "Side Show". That song reunited them with their mentor Keith Sweat.

In 2006 the group returned with their sixth album "Always And Forever" this time on well known R&B/Soul, Contemporary, and Jazz label Shanachie Records. The album featured covers of classics from the 70s, 80s, and 90s R&B. The songs on the album included remakes of "Adore" by Prince, "Don't Disturb This Groove" by The System, "Always And Forever" by Heatwave, "Nite And Day" by Al B. Sure, "Secret Garden (Seduction Suite)" by Quincy Jones, "The Lady In My Life" by Michael Jackson, "Two Occasions" by The Deele, and "Side Show" by Blue Magic also appeared on this album. "Secret Garden" was the first single and a video was released for it...
